Copyediting & Proofreading

For those writers who've gone through the comprehensive revision and edit phase and are now ready to polish their manuscripts.

Please note that AI generated content of any kind will not be considered for review.

Copyediting:

Once a manuscript has gone through the proper developmental editing phase (structure/line editing), the book will be read for copyediting. This phase of editing prepares the manuscript for publication through typesetting (setting the document in the appropriate publication format) and beginning the clean-up of the language. Through this phase, I will perform a close read to catch any inconsistencies with the syntax, catching typos, repetition, high-level grammatical issues, tense shifts, word choice, and punctuation.

A style guide will be provided, documenting all necessary changes performed during the copyedit.

Proofreading:

The final step. After we’ve gone and made the necessary changes through copyediting, we’ll comb through the draft for any mistakes. Proofreading is to ensure that the draft reads clean in the published state and doesn’t leave your reader thrown off-guard if they stumble over words. With proofreading, I will go over your draft to pinpoint any errors that are hiding in the writing, such as typos, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and any inconsistencies left behind.

The style guide of the copyedit will be updated, and if a style guide wasn't provided from a copyedit by a separate editor, a style guide will be drafted to mark changes.
